چکیده
Background. Pathogenetic factors that cause the development of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) remain poorly understood, namely, peculiarities saturated fatty acids (SFAs) in blood serum at different degrees disease severity, which is quite an important task. Objective: to evaluate level SFAs depending on IBD severity. Materials and methods. Thirty-seven patients with were examined, their average age was (38.5±2.1) years. Depending severity disease, divided into 2 groups: group I— moderate (n=24) II— severe (n=13). The control consisted 16 healthy people. quantitative content examined determined by gas chromatography. Median (Me), lower (25%) upper (75%) quartiles used describe data. Results. Biochemical analysis revealed a tendency decrease short-chain SFA (butyric acid; p>0.05) significant increase total medium- long-chain (MCSFAs LCSFAs; p<0.001) I II compared controls. It found increasing IBD, there LCSFAs (r=–0.420, p=0.048). spectrum analyzed all MCSFAs fractions detected both groups patients: caproic acid (p<0.001), caprylic capric (p≤0.002), undecylic (p≤0.006) lauric (p≤0.001). Characteristically, most had (p>0.05) against patients. LCSFAs, namely: tridecylic (p≤0.012), myristic pentadecylic palmitic stearic (p≤0.001) heneicosylic increased significantly patients, while margaric eicosanoic acids— only Almost (except acid) II. Conclusions. has been shown depends degree mechanism action carbon chain lengths multidirectional associated effect pro-/anti-inflammatory mediators maintenance immune intestinal homeostasis. necessity determining correct identified disorders confirmed.

Polyunsaturated fatty acids, inflammatory processes and inflammatory bowel diseases.
With regard to inflammatory processes, the main fatty acids of interest are the n-6 PUFA arachidonic acid (AA), which is the precursor of inflammatory eicosanoids like prostaglandin E(2) and leukotriene B(4), and the n-3 PUFAs eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are found in oily fish and fish oils. EPA and DHA inhibit AA metabolism to inflammatory eicosanoid...

Inflammation is overall a protective response, whose main goal is to liberate the human being of cellular lesions caused by micro-organisms, toxins, allergens, etc., as well as its consequences, and of death cells and necrotic tissues. Chronic inflammation, which is detrimental to tissues, is the basic pathogenic mechanism of hypersensitivity reactions against xenobiotics. Other frequent pathol...
متن کاملFatty Acids: Straight-chain Saturated
Straightor normal-chain, saturated components (even-numbered) make up 10-40% of the total fatty acids in most natural lipids. The most abundant saturated fatty acids in animal and plant tissues are straight-chain compounds with 14, 16 and 18 carbon atoms, but all the possible oddand even-numbered homologues with 2 to 36 carbon atoms have been found in nature in esterified form. They are named s...
متن کاملInflammatory bowel disease: can omega-3 fatty acids really help?
Adjuvants to the traditional therapy of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have been studied to enhance the efficacy of the treatment and improve patients' quality of life. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω3FA) have been associated with attenuation of the inflammatory responses in IBD, possibly acting as substrates for anti-inflammatory eicosanoid production, similar to prostaglandins and le...
